How I choose

Last updated

Every guide on this site compares electric snow blowers on numbers you can check: clearing width, clearing depth, throw distance, battery voltage and capacity, run time, weight and warranty. Here is how a guide gets made.

Where the facts come from

  • Manufacturer pages first. Specs come from each maker's product page, FAQ, manual or buying guide. When a maker only claims something (for example, how many driveways one charge clears), the guide says it is the maker's claim.
  • Independent buying guides second. I read buying guides from publishers such as Consumer Reports, Popular Mechanics and Bob Vila to see what they look at and where they disagree.
  • Every source is listed. Each guide ends with a Sources section that names the makers and publishers it used.

How a pick is chosen

  • I start with a wider list of models and narrow it down. The guide says how many models were compared and how many sources were read.
  • Each pick gets a "best for" label, and the reason is always a spec where that model differs from the others, such as the longest throw, the widest path or the lowest weight.
  • When two sources disagree, or a maker's number doesn't match another source, the guide says so instead of picking a side quietly.
  • If a spec isn't published, the guide says it isn't listed. It doesn't guess.
  • Before a model goes into a guide, I check that it is actually sold on Amazon US. Models that can't be bought there are left out or replaced.

What you won't find here

  • Star ratings or review counts copied from Amazon.
  • Prices. They change too often, so the buttons send you to Amazon to see the current price.
  • Paid placements. No brand pays to be included or to rank higher.

How this site makes money

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you buy through a link marked "(paid link)", Amazon pays this site a small commission. You pay the same price. The commission never decides which model is the pick: the specs do.

Updates and corrections

Each guide shows the date it was last updated. If you spot a wrong number or a model that is no longer sold, please tell me through the contact page and I'll fix it.
